Program Description:

Students will travel to the remote and geologically unique lower arctic circle by way of north Atlantic ferry and then undertake an epic journey through the heart of Iceland on the famous Ring Road. Dr. Ursula Murray Husted (Stout Faculty and Program Director in Entertainment Design-Comics/MFA/PhD/Cartoonist) and Stuart Klipper (MoMA/Guggenheim Fellow/Photographer) will guide students through the principles of comic art and document the landscape with illustration and photography during this once in a lifetime adventure in Iceland.


Minimum 2.0 cumulative GPA
Completion of at least one academic semester at UW-Stout at the time of participation.
Good academic & behavioral standing
Prerequisite: DES-396 will require professor permission

Course Information
Students will take a total of 6 credits. You may opt to take 6 credits of the same course or 3 credits of each of the two courses offered.
DES-379/579: Comics Studio (3 or 6 credits)
DES-396: Visual Storytelling with Technology, Natural Experience (3 or 6 credits)

Accommodation: Students will be staying in accommodations arranged by the Iceland tour company. The cost of the accommodation is included in the program fee. 

Meals: Meals will be provided and are included in the program fee. Participants should review the Cost Estimate online for the suggested amount of out-of-pocket money to bring in order to purchase meals outside the program fee.   

Travel: Group flights will be purchased for all participants and the faculty leader. These costs are included in the program fee.
