Do you want to create meaningful visuals for global audiences? Are you interested in better understanding the structure of visual communication?
Visual Language Design in Holland is a study abroad program addressing the theories and practices used to create visual language systems. This is a seven-week program, and includes two weeks in Holland visiting museums, community organizations, and design studios.
The course will start May 28th online with a series of readings and discussions. The readings include an introduction to semiotic theory, and an overview of the fundamental principles of the International System of Typographic Picture Education. These readings are intended to help students begin to understand the basis of the signs and symbols of the visual world surrounding us.

On June 15th, students will travel to Holland for two weeks to experience museum artifacts first-hand, talk with experts, and conduct visual language research. This time will also involve a workshop with UW-Stout Assistant Professor, Vadim Gershman at AGA Lab, a print studio in Amsterdam.

Finally, students will work for two more weeks on their own to generate a final deliverable for the course. This will be due on July 14th.
