This summer come to the foothills of the majestic Himalayas to experience traditional and cultural art, music, movement and dance! You will have the opportunity to immerse in local culture, experience local cuisine and learn how the creative arts are integrated in early childhood education.  In this Study Abroad program, you will be introduced to Nepal, a culturally, ethnically and geographically diverse, multilingual country with a rich history. Nepal is host to the tallest mountain peak in the world, Mount Everest.  There are over 38 different ethnicities and over 90 languages still spoken today.  Kathmandu, the capital city of Nepal, shares the Kathmandu Valley with two other cities, Bhaktapur and Patan, that have equally rich histories.

We will participate in early childhood classrooms in three different socio-economic settings.  We will immerse ourselves in innovative workshops that include "Thangka" painting, native pottery, ethnic music, musical instruments, dance forms, and more.  We will take part in customs and rituals of some of the ethnic casts such as the aboriginal "Newars" and tribes such as the "Gurungs" of Nepal to experience their culture first hand.  You will develop a deeper understanding and appreciation of diversity by witnessing and comparing this authentic society to what you have experienced in life so far.
