Program Description:

Fontys is a leading European university of applied sciences, which includes 29 institutes located in the South-East of the Netherlands. Fontys International Campus Venlo, together with Eindhoven and Tilburg, is one of the three largest Fontys campuses, located right at the border with Germany.

Fontys International Campus Venlo houses three institutes – Fontys International Business School, Fontys School of Technics and Logistics and Fontys Institute for Teacher Training. Fontys International Business School (or FIBS) is the biggest and most international of the three institutes, having active partnerships and student exchange with over 80 universities around the world.

Fontys University offers high quality programs that combine theory with practical experience.  More than 36,000 students have chosen Fontys University as their educational provider, making it the largest higher educational institution in the Netherlands.  Teaching is carried out in a small-scale environment so that attention is focused on a student’s personal development. At the same time students are able to profit from the huge diversity offered by a large institution. Because of its location on the border of Germany and Fontys University’s International focus, the student population is extremely diverse with a high number of German students and others from around the world. For more information about the University of Fontys, visit their website.

Buddies: Each exchange student will have a buddy, an older Fontys student, who will guide the student through the arrival and the first weeks in Venlo. Each buddy will assist a group of students assigned to him/her and the exchange students will be contacted by their buddy a few weeks before their arrival.

Location: Venlo, the Netherlands

The International Campus of Fontys University is located in Venlo, Netherlands, which is on borders of southeastern Netherlands and Germany.  Venlo has approximately 90,000 inhabitants and became an established city around 1343. Due to its location on the River Maas, it was able to develop into a thriving place of commerce at this early stage.  The Venlo area has an abundance of natural beauty, located between several national parks: the German-Dutch Maas-Schwalm-Nette Park, Maasduinen National Park and the Groote Peel National Park.  The banks of the Maas River are also a favorite location for picnicking or strolling. With a vision on its ‘green’ environment, there is a wealth of ‘green’ inside the city itself.

Every Venlo resident can be in the heart of the natural environment within ten minutes by bicycle.  Recreational opportunities in Venlo are also plentiful for participants and spectators alike. There are several quality golf courses around the city. Venlo also offers plenty of entertainment: theaters, cinemas, pubs and bars. There is a historic shopping center with a wide variety of shops combined with authentic bars, restaurants and pavement cafés. Many museums, theaters, cinemas and traditional carnivals make Venlo a regional entertainment center.
