Location

Karlstad lies at the heart of Scandinavia with Gothenburg, Stockholm, Copenhagen, and Oslo within easy reach. It offers the pleasures of a small town and yet is close to the big city. Charles IX (Karl) granted the town its municipal charter in 1584, and since then Karlstad has become a cultural and commercial center, an important industrial city, and an administrative capital.

Karlstad has a lot to offer, from outdoor activities and sports to culture and entertainment. The winter is ideal for cross-country skiing and the summer, for sailboarding and canoeing. Sunne Ski Centre, about one hour from Karlstad, has a number of fine downhill and slalom pistes. Plays, operas and ballets are performed at the beautiful old theatre. The city boasts several art galleries and museums, and, cinemas, restaurants and places to dance.

Students attending US universities that are ISEP-Exchange members are eligible to apply for these programs at other international ISEP-Exchange member universities. Chances of placement vary by location.

ISEP-Direct programs allow students to enroll directly in a host institution abroad, instead of exchanging places with another student. Chances of placement are typically excellent for qualified applicants and some sites offer special academic programs and excursions. Students attending US universities that are either ISEP-Exchange members or ISEP-Direct members can participate in ISEP-Direct programs abroad.
