The Program

Participants will have the chance to spend two weeks in local schools or public agencies in and around Edinburgh, Scotland and Cork, Ireland that relate to their field of study at UW-Stout. These experiences will afford the students the opportunity to interact, observe, and understand the similarities and differences of these professions in the U.S. and Great Britain.

Eligibility

Courses

Upon successful completion, students will receive 6 credits for this program. Students will receive 3 credits in EDUC 401/601, Global Education Practicum and 3 credits in EDUC 402/602 Global Perspectives for Educators.

Program Fee

The program cost will be determined by the number of participants shortly after the application deadline. The program cost includes instructional fees , health insurance, international student ID card, housing, local transportation, cultural events and airfare.

Passport fees, meals, airfare to Paris, housing in Paris and personal expenses are not included in the program cost and are paid directly by students.

Students can use their financial aid to help pay these expenses, but keep in mind that 6 credits are needed during the summer to be eligible for financial aid. Financial-need based grants are available to eligible Wisconsin residents. Contact your financial aid counselor for additional funding options.

Lodging and Meals

Students will stay in Dalkeith Palace during the first two weeks of the program. Cork university dormitories will be used for the final week of stay in Cork, Ireland. Meals will be purchased directly by students. Students will be responsible for housing and meal costs during the Paris portion of the course.

Passport/Visa

All students must have a valid U.S. passport for entrance into Great Britain and Ireland. The current passport fee is $135. Students should apply for their passport by no later than January to ensure summer participation. If students already have a U.S. passport, they must make sure to check the dates of validity. It must be valid for six months beyond the return date to the U.S.
