Program Description:

The University of Skövde, founded in 1977, is located in the center of the city of Skövde and is one of the newest universities in Sweden with an enrollment of about 2,600 students.

Similar to UW-Stout, Skövde has a mission of educating students for careers in business and industry with several cross-disciplinary programs. Many of its courses use case studies to link learning to the practical needs of industry and society. The campus area has kept its old time charm with modern architecture. Both students and instructors in Sweden are generally fluent in English.

Location: Skövde, Sweden

Skövde is situated in between Sweden's two biggest lakes, Vänern and Vättern. The town has about 50,000 residents and more than one fifth of the population are students. From Skövde you have easy access to many cities in Sweden, approximately one hour to Gothenburg and two hours to Stockholm by train. The travel center called 'Resecentrum' gives access to county transit buses, the high-speed train X2000 and intercity trains.

The city and neighboring region offer many recreational activities and sports including hiking, soccer, fishing, and skiing. Museums, theaters, musical events, and historical sites provide opportunities for entertainment as well as learning about Swedish history and culture. There are several shopping malls and specialty shops and Skövde is the location of a new Volvo engine plant employing over 4,000 workers. While Swedish is the native language, most people speak English as a second language.

Courses are offered in English in the areas of Game Design and Development, Entertainment Design, Applied Math and Computer Science, Applied Science and Engineering. To remain a full-time student, 30 ECTS must be taken which is the equivalent to 3 or 4 courses. Please carefully check the prerequisites for each course and program. Exchange students should only apply to courses where they fulfill the academic requirements. Students are also encouraged to take a Swedish language course.
