Program Overview

London College of Fashion (LCF) is the only college in the UK to specialize in fashion education.  With an international reputation for fashion education, LCF offers a unique portfolio of courses from fashion design to merchandising and communication.  LCF's aim is to reflect the breadth of opportunity available in this vibrant industry.  Campuses located throughout the city, students of University of the Arts London are members of an inspiring, multicultural and diverse environment.

The study abroad program at LCF is a self contained program of 50-100 international students from all over the world.  Students complete the program as a cohort, separately from other degree seeking LCF students, but there are plenty of opportunities to interact with these students!  The college was founded in 1906 and is part of the University of the Arts London, Europe's largest university built around art, design, communication, fashion and the performing arts.  LCF has been offering programs to international students for over 35 years.

Location

The program takes place in the center of London, the capital city of England.  A city of 7.5 million people, London is known for its several prime fashion districts such as Soho, Bond Street, Brick Lane and Covent Garden.  Of the six campuses that make up LCF, two are in the retail district of Oxford Street, an area known to locals and tourists as a primary retail location.  Among several attractions throughout London, the LCF campuses are within commuting distance to destinations such as the Victoria and Albert Museum, the National Gallery, the Design Museum, and several fashion neighborhoods.  Visits to these attractions round out the experience of studying fashion in the heart Big Ben at Night
of the international fashion capital.

London's public transit system also offers opportunities to visit every corner of London. As one of the world's major hubs, London has museums, culture and entertainment unparalleled by any other place in the world. If you are looking for a true big city experience, London is the best place study abroad. Its location also makes it ideal for visiting the rest of the UK and Europe.

Courses

During the semester or summer students will take a minimum of 12 and a maximum of 16 credits.  Students will work with their program director or academic advisor to choose specifically tailored apparel design or retail courses.  For Apparel Design and Development majors, a portfolio of your experience will be required upon return to UW-Stout. Your program director or advisor can advise more thoroughly of the portfolio expectations.

Courses can be found here.

A one credit internship is also available.  The internship is highly selective and students must have a minimum GPA of 3.5. Placements occur after arrival to LCF where students are interviewed by the Internship Coordinator and Study Abroad Director for appropriate placement.

An optional trip to Paris is offered during the semester.  It is included in the summer program.  Participation in the trip is highly recommended.
